DEADLINE, 2/9/17:Paul Giamatti and Jeff Daniels are joining Paul Rudd and Guy Pearce in Catcher Was A Spy, the Ben Lewin-directed and Robert Rodat-scripted drama that begins filming Monday in Prague, with shooting also in Boston. The film is fully financed and produced by PalmStar Media with PalmStar’s financial partner Windy Hill Pictures. It’s a PalmStar and Animus Films production, with Palmstar’s Kevin Frakes producing with Windy Hill’s  Buddy Patrick, Jim Young, Tatiana Kelly and Michael Bederman.”

Variety, 9/30/16:TriStar and PalmStar are teaming up to produce an adaptation of the classic Paulo Coelho novel “The Alchemist.”

PalmStar acquired worldwide rights to the book several weeks ago and TriStar moved quickly to ensure the project ended up at their studio. Hannah Minghella, who spearheaded the deal for TriStar, will oversee the project along with Nicole Brown.”

Variety, 4/28/16: Paul Rudd is set to star in the World War II film “The Catcher Was a Spy,” sources confirmed to Variety.

Ben Lewin is on board to direct the movie, which PalmStar Media is producing and financing.

Rudd will play Moe Berg, an Ivy League grad and attorney who goes on to play baseball for 15 years for teams that included the Chicago White Sox. What was unknown to his teammates was that Berg doubled as a top secret spy for the OSS (a forerunner for the CIA), who helped the U.S. win the race against Germany to build the atomic bomb.

Movieweb, 2/1/16: Hyde Park-Image Nation and Troika Pictures have announced that actor-singer Nick Jonas will star as the male lead opposite Isabel Lucas in the edgy thriller Careful What You Wish For. The film is directed by Elizabeth Allen (The Vampire Diaries, Aquamarine) and written by Chris Frisina and Gregg Hurwitz. Careful What You Wish For will be the Grammy-nominated musician’s first lead acting role in a feature film. Jonas made his Broadway debut in the lead role of 2011’s revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Movieweb, February 2016: A24 has just picked up domestic rights to Lynn Shelton’s Laggies starring Keira Knightley, Chloe Moretz, and Sam Rockwell. The film, written by first time screenwriter Andrea Seigel, had its Sundance premiere on Friday. The film also co-stars Ellie Kemper, Mark Webber, Jeff Garlin, Gretchen Mol, and Kaitlyn Dever. A24 is planning a summer theatrical release for the film.
